I try not to make Jim an idiot. He will be unobservant (like in my first Trek fic). He can be foolish. But I don't want him to be stupid. That just makes me go nuts. The movie even SAYS he's a genius!
Even if I told myself I could be vague on the details, I'd start this HUGE research project. I was thinking about putting it in 1800s San Fran and that era is a serious interest of mine so I'm sure I'd be doing months of research before I even considered starting it.
