I pity her too, most of the time, but then I remember what it was like to be next to her during art class (and I'm gonna be honest with you: I have never seen someone draw that much but never improve. I mean, she's rather prolific with her dA posts, but dude, her style and proportions haven't improved in five years) and have her talk about shit she didn't know or understand.
I called her out on some vaguely homophobic statement she made, and it was like she was reading from the Defensive Asshole's Handbook:
1. She wasn't homophobic because her (actually non-existent, according to her older sister) cousin was gay! And transgender! And a crossdresser as well! 2. Yaoi is hot, yo. (Because you can't be homophobic if it gets you off!) 3. She's a member of the GSA! Just like the rest of us! (It kind of loses its meaning when your friends - plus me - were the ones who fought the administration over letting us have the damn club. And fought them when they tried to stop us from having Day of Silence, the fuckers.) 4. It's not her fault I'm too sensitive! 5. It's also not her that I make her uncomfortable!
...
:/
Thinking back on it now, I don't think that I should have let my aversion to drama stop me from calling her out in front of everyone. I just let it slide and let it slide because it was easier to get into fights with my teachers and administrators about my rights than it was to tear our little rag-tag group of friends apart, which would have happened if I'd done it. But then, recently someone tried to do just that and R turned it into this big thing and divided a lot of our friends and it was just way too messy for me. :/
