OH HOW I WISH THIS WAS JUST A NIGHTMARE.

OKAY. So I know I don't post my friends' & family's shenanigans all that often, because we're a very uneven bunch and one day we'll all be fine with each other and the next day we'll each be out for blood, and to be honest, it's kind of stressful figuring out which day is going to be which.

BUT DUDE.

I NEED TO TELL YOU GUYS SOMETHING.

So, there's this chick I knew in high school.

Remember that person in your group of friends, the one who, even though you somehow shared the same friend-group, annoyed the ever loving shit out of you? Well, I'm still facebook friends with that girl, even though I've blocked her from my news feed, etc. She's kind of ridiculous -- She's basically a compulsive liar who has the odd habit of making up family members. I'm not even sure where to begin with that one.

On a more personal note, she once borrowed a book from me and gave it back trashed six months later, and that is just, URGH. And she never owned up to it and refused to pay for a replacement.

Just to illustrate her ridiculousness: We were in drama together (an experience that I would rather pull out my own fingernails than repeat) and we were fucking around with the swords. Now, R took/said she took (which was not the same thing) fencing lessons, which, okay, awesome. Except for the fact that the swords we were using were broadswords, which is very different, as I'm sure all of you were aware. So she was trying to hold a broadsword like a saber, which is impossible, because, well, duh. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Well, we were faux-dueling, killing time, and I kept beating her, because while I've always liked broadswords and longswords so I fool around with them whenever I get the chance. She bitched about me winning, so I told her that maybe if she actually lowered the practice sword to cover her torso, I wouldn't keep going around her guard. She then said that all sword techniques are the same.

All sword techniques are the same.

ALL SWORD TECHNIQUES ARE THE SAME.

And she didn't mean it in a, The Goal Is The Same, All Is One kind of way either. She legit thought that.

So anyway, we got into a week-long argument about it, because she wouldn't back off and I can't just let stupid lie.

So, ahem, to get more back on track, I'm facebook friends with R, and I didn't even really remember that because I haven't spoken to her in, literally, two years. But I posted a comment bitching about how people keep referring to Chris Colfer/Kurt Hummel as a soprano when he's actually a countertenor.

Me: New pet peeve: People referring to Kurt Hummel/Chris Colfer as a soprano. The boy is a countertenor. GET IT RIGHT.
Her: In Choral music in England for men yes it can be Countertenor but Sopranist is also correct, so it's not totally off.
Me: Not with his range. Yeah, he can sing high, but he can also go way deeper than than the soprano range.
Her: Both countertenor and Sopranist are correct, they're the same thing.
Me: Not from what I remember. :/
Her: The term "male Soprano/Sopranist" can be used to describe men who sing in the Soprano vocal range using Falsetto instead of the modal voice. It's more commonly used in England than anywhere.
Me: ...We'll have to agree to disagree because all of the training and research I've done says that they are not the same thing.

About halfway through this, I went downstairs to ask my stepdad, since he's a classically trained singer. (He went to a fancy private Catholic school, and part of his scholarship was for music.)

Me: A soprano and a countertenor aren't the same thing, right?
T: What? No, of course not.
Me: Oh good, so she's just being a brat again.
T: What?
Me: Do you remember R from high school?
T: The crazy sword chick?
Me: Yeah. Well [I explain everything that has been said so far]
T: ...If they were the same thing, they'd have the same name. [launches into some highly technical analysis of why they aren't, in fact, the same thing]
T: Also, I thought you stopped talking to her ages ago.
Me: To be honest...I had forgotten she even existed.
T: Ah. Well, feel free to go lay a smack down on her.
Me: Gladly.

...But then I didn't, because I am GOOD PERSON. THE END.

So yeah. I'd almost feel sorry for R, because I get that she has issues and whatever, I really do, because you don't get to be her level of crazy without them (I've known her since my freshman year of high school, okay, I took classes with her. I know she's batshit) but then I remember how she freaked out at my friends party because she didn't want to sleep in the same room (and especially on the same mattress) with a two bisexual chicks and two lesbians. :/ :/ :/ :/ And how she was worried that we would ~convert her little sister, who was there too.

:/ :/ :/

Actually, you know what? Why am I still friends with her on facebook? *goes off to defriend her*

I just feel pity for your friend/acquaintance. I mean, there is stupid people who are stupid because it's their thing and then there's stupid because they're just ... stupid :/ I know how you feel. I have one of those in one of my "gangs", and even though she's not half as annoying as yours she's pretty ... special. :/

I pity her too, most of the time, but then I remember what it was like to be next to her during art class (and I'm gonna be honest with you: I have never seen someone draw that much but never improve. I mean, she's rather prolific with her dA posts, but dude, her style and proportions haven't improved in five years) and have her talk about shit she didn't know or understand.

I called her out on some vaguely homophobic statement she made, and it was like she was reading from the Defensive Asshole's Handbook:

1. She wasn't homophobic because her (actually non-existent, according to her older sister) cousin was gay! And transgender! And a crossdresser as well!
2. Yaoi is hot, yo. (Because you can't be homophobic if it gets you off!)
3. She's a member of the GSA! Just like the rest of us! (It kind of loses its meaning when your friends - plus me - were the ones who fought the administration over letting us have the damn club. And fought them when they tried to stop us from having Day of Silence, the fuckers.)
4. It's not her fault I'm too sensitive!
5. It's also not her that I make her uncomfortable!

...

:/

Thinking back on it now, I don't think that I should have let my aversion to drama stop me from calling her out in front of everyone. I just let it slide and let it slide because it was easier to get into fights with my teachers and administrators about my rights than it was to tear our little rag-tag group of friends apart, which would have happened if I'd done it. But then, recently someone tried to do just that and R turned it into this big thing and divided a lot of our friends and it was just way too messy for me. :/

/is a coward

If she has a cousin who's both gay, transgender and a crossdresser everything is alright. *cough*

Sometimes I just hate human interactions when it gets to dramas like the one you've been having. They're just stupid and so meaningless. Though I totally understand what you mean with not wanting to be the one who starts things, I have a serious case of fear of conflicts and not enough self esteem to confront people. So personally I don't think you're a coward (but everyone is different).

I just keep thinking that I'm obviously not as badass as Nevile Longbottom. :( Dumbledor said it: Standing up to your friends = ten points for your House. Or something? /is tottering on the edge of ridiculousness.

Neville is a war-hero! He was born to be a badass.

[identity profile] snowdarkred.livejournal.com 2010-12-31 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Neville pwns all, trufax.

Q: Is there one of those ridiculous ALL CAPS rant pic thingies that are so popular? The ones that are all like FUCK YEAH SIT YOUR ASS DOWN WHY WE TELL YOU HOW FUCKING AWESOME THIS GQMF IS for Neville? Because I would save that faster than a speeding bullet.
