I know I haven’t posted my writing for a while, but this WSJ article and the fabulous backlash has had me reaching for my keyboard, so. I'm going to subject you to my poetry.

#YAsaves

a lady once said to me
you're too young for these books darlin'
i turned to her with raised eyebrows
and watched her wary face
she looked like a lion tamer, gone to war
and i realized that i was the lion
so i decided to roar

i asked her what she knew about me
what she knew about my life
she said, not a thing
and so i laid into her with strife

how can a woman decide what is best
when she doesn't know the pain i feel
when she doesn't understand
when she doesn't look at me in the eye

she turned her face from my scars
from my terror
from my arms
from my legs with their bruises
and my back with its welts

she turned away from me
because she didn't want to see
she said, you can't read those books
they'll ruin your mind
and taint you with darkness

i said, i see darkness every day
i see it in my face,
in the bruises around my eyes
in the coldness of the world
and the wretchedness of breathing
these books tell my story,
the hope
the sadness
the loss
the pain

these books are me
and i am not tainted

This is wonderful, love. So wonderful. You really have a way to describe all these feelings and thoughts and the hurt a lot of us are going through. When I read this I came to think of that Pinto-fic you wrote (which was also the fic that led me to you) about Chris. The poem and the fic have the same feeling. You are truly an artist who paints with words ♥

these books are me
and i am not tainted
This, this is glorious.

I just read the article like an hour ago so I haven't really had time to process everything, but it left me feeling very uncomfortable. I really, really don't agree with her, but I can kind of see her point, and it terrifies me that it's easy to see where she comes from. Because there are probably lots of people out there who agree with her, and if everyone start to launch "attacks" like this one which isn't half-bad (in the sense that she wrote quite much and it felt very serious, you know?) they probably can do some damage. Guh. Me don't like :/ But I guess that maybe it's good to actually open up the discussion? IDK. It left me feeling all wonky.
