Scott Walker is, god. I hate this man so much. If you don't know what's going on here in the US (you're in Seden, right?) here are some very good links for you to check out, since I can't form a coherent explanation without being reduced to non-stop swearing:
I'm in Georgia. I wish I could be there so, so much. What they did was a heinous caricature of democracy. I've been following this entire thing online and each step that Walker and his thugs have taken has shaken me with fear. How can we live in a country where this is allowed to happen? How can politicians praise Egypt (but not Libya, no, because that's where we get our oil! Don't want to have those gas prices go up two cents a gallon!) but complete ignore or demean or outright lie about the protests in Wisconsin?
Yeah. Sorry for the info dump, but this entire thing has been a mess. Protests started the day after/the day of Valentine's Day. They're still going strong. At the high point, it's been estimated that there were 100K+ people in and around the capitol, protesting. Fox News, the lying bastards, has been doing its best to misinform and mislead everyone about what's going on.
(They were talking about how "violent" the Wisconsin protests were - and yet there hasn't been a single arrest after three weeks and thousands of people - and they showed footage of an altercation at a protest...in which there were palm trees in the background. Seeing as it's been below freezing for months in Wisconsin, which is in the far north, protesters wearing T shirts in front of palm trees is a little...suspicious. You know. Considering.)

Date: 2011-03-10 09:15 pm (UTC)- What's Happening in Wisconsin Explained
- The Governor is a dick who won't listen to his own people but will listen to a billionaire on the phone. Or, IDK, a journalist pretending to be a billionaire.
- The bill also allows for workers who strike to be fired.
- A deputy attorney general calls for the use of live ammunition on the 70,000+ peaceful protests who were occupying the capitol.
- People are calling this class warfare for a reason.
- The Gov. closed the capitol, even though that's directly against the Wisconsin constitution.
- The foreign media has treated the protests more honestly than the US media
- People from around the world and from all fifty states have been donating food (and other things, like blankets for those who have been sleeping outside because they refuse to leave) to the protesters.
- People are very pissed off about it and with very good reason.
- The Republicans have flaunted the law and the will of the people who elected them.
- Wisconsin GOP Senators Pass Stand-Alone Anti-Union Bill Without Democrats Present
- Jon Stewart has weighed in several times about how ridiculous it is that the GOP is blaming teachers.
So all in all, these past few weeks have been infuriating. Just. Yeah. Ugh.
